About the name "Buckeye" Beans
Located on the quiet waters of the Little Spokane River, just a stone’s throw away from Spokane, Washington, the mill town of Buckeye was once a bustling community of three hundred residents. Lumber was cut from the surrounding pine and tamarack forests and milled at the Buckeye Lumber Company. Boxes made from first grade lumber were shipped from the Buckeye Box Factory to various parts of the United States via the Spokane Falls and Northern Railroads. Many local commercial apple growers shipped their fruit in Buckeye boxes. By 1912, the mill was closed and most of the townsfolk had moved on. The Buckeye Beans company was founded just downstream from this sleepy little town and was inspired to create genuine products that reflect the "simpler" way of life." Hearty soups on the back burner and beans baking in the oven provide a flavor of days gone by.
Just like my Dad makes!!!!!
This soup was awesome - turned out super thick and the taste was great. Bought it at TJ Maxx along with a few others. We used left over Christmas ham and we both enjoyed it very much.....as well as the left overs! Reminds me of the pea soup my Dad makes. Will for sure buy it again!!
What A Super Yummy Split Pea Soup!!!!
This is the first time I've made this soup, I received it for Christmas because pea soup is my all-time favorite soup! I used the left over ham from Christmas including the bone and what was Left on it. I made as directed adding nothing more. The seasoning and consistancy was absolutely perfect! The seasoning it comes with is SO SO good!!! I'll be rushing back to the store for more, and it was truly made in just 1 1/2 hours (after work and still ate at 6:30PM on a very cold evening!).
I have never reviewed a product before. We have never had such good pea soup. Make as directed or add more vegetables and it will be delicious either way. The seasoning is perfect for the creamy peas. I will never make my own again.
I would recommend this product. It is so easy to prepare and the taste is great
I had this split pea soup for lunch at work for 5 days in a row. I tell you I enjoyed every drop of it. During this cold winter season, it was really good for my body and my soul.
This is absolutely delicious pea soup. I bought a ham steak to cut up rnd use in it. My husband and I had soup for 3 meals from it with a bit more to spare. I bought more for us and gave some away for Christmas.
I made this as directed except that I first braised a large pork chop in the 5 qt. pot and removed to cool. To those drippings, I added the diced onion until translucent. After cooking for one hour, I added a diced medium potato and three small diced carrots and a little salt. I was so impressed with this soup mix that I ordered a case of it so I wouldn't run out over the winter. The seasonings are perfect. I've also made it exactly as directed (rinse peas, add diced onion and 7 cups water) and it's better than any other split pea soup I've ever had. I love to take it to the next level by topping with a spoon of sour cream and shot of brandy. YUM!!!
One of my fondest memories of childhood was coming home to a dinner that included my mother's homemade split pea soup. Your split pea soup mix reminded me of those times. Thank you for making such a superior product.
I'm hooked on this split pea soup mix. I didn't have any ham, so I braised two pork chops in my pot, then added one chopped onion and water and simmered for 1 1/2 hours. I removed the pork chops to cool and added 2 diced potatoes and 3 diced carrots to the soup until they were cooked. I shredded the pork chops and added back to the soup. IT WAS KILLER GOOD!! As good as when I spend all day making it--- maybe better. No one who loves split pea soup would be disappointed with this fabulous soup mix.
Tastes Like You Spent All Day to Make!
I usually make the 4 hour long split pea soup, starting from making a favorful broth to the finished product. Buckeye Country Split Pea soup was fast, easy and darn if it didn't taste better than what I've been making for years.
I added 1 celery stalk (diced) to the onion and ham. Made as directed and oh my goodness....the BEST!
Made the soup using chicken broth in place of water. Delicious
This is the BEST dried soup mix I have ever bought. I do make some of my own, but this one did not need ANYTHING except the ingredients called for on the box... some ham and an onion!! We are stocking our EMERGENCY pantry with these (hurricanes here near the Gulf, and who knows what else?) because they would be good AND nutricious for the family with JUST water and nothing else.
This is fantastic split pea soup and the bonus .... it's simple to make.
Best split pea soup ever! Better than mom's!!
I discovered Buckeye Bean soups last winter. The split Pea Soup was the first one I made. Add an onion and a pound of ham and you get a wonderful soup. Its fabulous. It was so good I rushed back to the store and bought all the other varieties. I wasn't disappointed. They are all good and make a great meal on a cold winter day.
The best! Easy and Delicious
I am asked to make this soup over and over. I cube a one pound turkey ham, add the onion, the peas and spices to a crockpot, PLUS 1 large russet potato diced and three large carrots sliced. Just put it all in the crockpot for 8 hours on low. Easy and Delicious
